Today was the crash after the burn. Mom slept on and off all day. She did get some laundry done, but that was about all she could manage. When I called her at 8 I woke her up.
She had an interesting discussion with her nurse practitioner at the chemo office today. Tomorrow is her Neulasta shot, and the NP was wondering if mom’s new insurance covers it. “If not,” she warned, “you have to come in every day for a shot.”
Every day means every single weekday during chemo, for the next few months.
“How the hell much is Neulasta?” I asked. I knew mom would have a problem if she had to have a shot every day, and I was thinking maybe she could just pay for the Neulasta herself.
“$3,000,” she told me.
Well, it was a good idea while it lasted.
Her insurance covers it. Whew. It seems that many don’t, and this office has lots of people who come in every day for a shot of something else. Something cheaper.

I’m glad that something is working. Neulasta is great, if it works. I’m sure that they are doing frequent blood work. If the blood work shows that she isn’t getting any benefit from the stuff, I hope that they d/c it. No use giving her something that isn’t benefiting her. it sounds like her quality of life is getting better. That is what it is all about… quality of life. If is didn’t learn anything else when I worked for a Hospice agency, I did learn that quality of life is so important to the well being of not only the patient, but her family as well.
God bless, I’ll keep you all in my prayers.
